ASHANTI FEST 2025

The Ashanti Fest 2025, themed “Tradition”, highlights the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Ashanti Kingdom. It exhibits the rich history, music, dance, and community spirit of one ofthe revered kingdoms in West Africa.

The festival features various activities, including traditional ceremonies, sports, education, and community development initiatives, all centered around preserving and celebrating the Ashanti traditions.

Marking the second edition of this remarkable cultural festival, Kumasi, the capital town has started displaying the rich cultural heritage of the Ashanti Kingdom. The festival, which is currently running from Saturday, April 12 to Saturday, April 26, 2025, features a range of activities, including traditional ceremonies, music and dance performances, educational initiatives, and community development projects.

A Region-Wide Cleanup Exercise; The grand opening of Ashanti Fest 2025 included a region-wide cleanup exercise, which brought together residents, stakeholders, and dignitaries to promote a clean and healthy environment. This initiative reflects the festival’s commitment to community development and social responsibility. The exercise took place on Saturday, April 12, 2025, across Kumasi, with activities in 43 districts.

The initiative aimed to promote environmental cleanliness, community engagement, and unity among residents. Hon.Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, led the exercise, demonstrating his commitment to environmental responsibility. Hon. Amoh Kamel the member of parliament for Asokwa constituency also Participates in the Clean-Up Exercise with Asokwa Constituents as he is met and greeted by the Regional Minister.

The cleanup exercise focused on major hubs, including; Dr. Mensah, a key location in Kumasi; Alarbar, a busy area that saw significant clean-up efforts; Pelele, a strategic spot; Anloga Junction, a major intersection; Tech Junction, a key location; Atonsu Market/High School Junction, a bustling area; Suame, an industrial area; Tafo, a suburb of Kumasi.

The exercise saw active participation from stakeholders, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Services, Tepa Traditional Council, Ahafo Ano North Municipal Assembly. The cleanup exercise demonstrated strong unity among key institutions to promote sustainable environmental practices and set a positive tone for unity and civic duty. Dr. Amoakohene emphasized on the importance of environmental cleanliness for good health and high productivity, urging residents to adopt proper waste management practices and work closely with local authorities to sustain the clean-up efforts. Prominent Personalities in AttendanceThe festival has attracted prominent personalities from the entertainment, sports, and cultural industries. While specific names weren’t provided, the event’s popularity suggests a strong showing of Ghanaian celebrities and influencers.

The Ashanti Fest 2025 Soccer Gala, an Inter-District Soccer Games, was put together as a key event of the festival. The soccer games kicked off on Saturday, April 12, 2025, with multiple rounds of group play culminating in a final showdown. Participating were teams from various districts in the Ashanti Region such as Benab FC and Asokwa Namoro FC, which played in the first game. The tournament aims to promote sports development, community engagement, and unity in the region, providing a platform for emerging football talents. Top dignitaries, including Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, and Hon. Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, attended the opening fixtures, highlighting the event’s importance.

The tournament features fast-paced matches, halftime cultural performances, and food vending zones celebrating Ashanti cuisine, showcasing the region’s passion for football. The Ashanti Fest 2025 Soccer Gala is part of the larger festival, which celebrates Ashanti culture, heritage, and entertainment from Saturday, April 12 to 26, 2025.

On the Boxing Night Dr Likee and Bukom Banku thrilled fans at the Ashanti Festival’s opening with a friendly boxing bout and dance battle. The events held at KNUST, including a football gala and boxing night The festivities attracted huge crowds and dignitaries such as Hon Kofi Adams and Sharaf Mahama.

Lots of people came out in their numbers to witness the event Akwasidae. The Akwasidae Festival is a significant traditional festival celebrated by the Ashanti people in Ghana, primarily in the Ashanti Region. It is held every six weeks as part of the Ashanti traditional calendar and is characterized by vibrant cultural expressions, including music, dance, and rituals.

The Ashanti Fest 2025 Fashion Exhibition featured a variety of local products and designs, including; the Traditional Ghanaian Kente cloth showcased by designers like Kente Vogues, who offered different kinds of Kente at affordable prices. The Bespoke Tailoring also had local tailors displayed their skills with custom-made clothing, highlighting their craftsmanship. Shoemakers were also part of the exhibition, offering handmade shoes that reflected Ghanaian style. Artisans showcased their beadwork, creating unique pieces that reflected the Ashanti Kingdom’s cultural heritage. Hat Creation also saw Milliners displaying their designs, adding a touch of elegance to the exhibition. African Prints Designers like Baffoe Polo used African prints to retell the African story through fashion, offering catchy and unique clothing designs.

The event provided a platform for local designers and entrepreneurs to showcase their talents, promote their brands, and connect with potential customers. Celebrities like Funny Face and Kwaku Manu made an appearance on the runway, bringing humor and energy to the event. It later saw the likes of Wayoosi, Kyekyeku and a number of TikTok influencers.

However, the event highlighted the creativity and talent of Ghanaian fashion designers. Monday, April 14, 2025, focused on education and innovation. The Basic School Spelling Bee (English & Twi) started from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Great Hall, KNUST. This was succeeded by the Inter-SHS Debate Competition from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM and the Science and Technology Fair from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, both taking place at the same venue.

Currently the events are still ongoing and hope for a successful event wrap up on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
